About Massage Treatments

Massage has been practised for thousands of years and is widely recognised as an important therapy for the treatment of physical and emotional problems.

Many people these days are aware that massage can help reduce their stress levels and give them a feeling of relaxation and well-being. The medical profession also appreciates the benefits of massage and many nurses and doctors not only recognise the benefits of the therapy; they also recommend it to patients.

Massage therapy can be described in a number of ways, from energising to pampering, and used for a number of reasons such as pain relief, stress management or a 'me-time' treat. Whatever the reason someone chooses massage therapy it can be used as part of a healthcare regime to reduce stress, promoting a more healthy body. Clients have described a feeling of clarity of mind and a sense of perspective after a massage treatment. An emotional balance can be as beneficial to your health as the physical benefits.

At Tranquil Escapes you receive a massage tailored specifically for you. A free consultation is provided which ensures your individual requirements are addressed. After this I will discuss possible treatment options that I feel will provide the best results for you and a range of massage techniques may be used during each session depending on your current needs.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the most popular type of massage therapy. Whilst this type of massage is very relaxing and provides all the usual massage benefits, it incorporates a number of movements that have specific benefits.

Swedish massage can be utilised to help break down adipose tissue (the cause of cellulite). Visible improvement in the appearance of cellulite can be achieved with regular sessions and a healthy dietary regime.

Bamboo Massage

Warm Bamboo Massage

Thought to have first originated in South East Asia, the Warm Bamboo Massage is a relatively new therapy in this country with results that go deeper and last longer that other massage techniques.

A warm bamboo massage can be compared to a hot stone massage as heat forms part of the therapy, although the bamboo is strong and flexible. The chemical structure of bamboo enhances the treatment due to the build-up of potential energy through the heat and pressure used in massage.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage, also known as champissage, originates from a hair treatment incorporating massage.

This treatment has been used by Indian women for thousands of years to maintain the condition of their long dark hair and protect it from the drying effects of the sun. Oils are massaged into the scalp and pulled through the hair to add to the overall therapeutic effect of the treatment.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Therapeutic Ultrasound

This treatment can be used in conjunction with massage therapy or as a stand-alone treatment booked as a course.

Therapeutic ultrasound has been used by physiotherapists since the 1940s. It can cause increases in healing rates, tissue relaxation, localised bloodflow and scar tissue breakdown and will have a beneficial effect on most muscle and ligament injuries.

The treatment works due to ultrasound waves passing through the skin and causing a vibration of the soft tissues. This increases heat and promotes a healing reaction to the tissues. The treatment itself is gentle and relaxing, no pain or heat will be experienced by the client.

The most common conditions treated with ultrasound include soft tissue injuries such as tendonitis, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, non-acute joint swelling and muscle spasm.

A free consultation is included to ensure individuals issues are addressed. Please message for an appointment.

Massage for Fibromyalgia

Massage for Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness which is complex in nature. Massaging clients with this condition requires consideration of their current tolerance levels at the time of the treatment as well as how their condition affects them on a day to day basis.

The initial consultation for this treatment will be thorough to ensure every treatment is tailored specifically to the individual client. Please allow 30 minutes on top of the session time for this consultation. Follow up consultations will be shorter including a discussion of current symptoms/requirements.

The treatment consists of a range of techniques including gentle rocking, soothing massage, stretches and gentle skin manipulation (myofascial release). The trigger point areas or tender spots identified for fibromyalgia are avoided to minimise any risks of flare-ups following treatment.

Clients often report after a session that they feel less tender and stiff. Regular treatments are recommended to gain the full benefit of the treatment, as with any long-term condition massage is a maintenance therapy and not a cure. However, a reduction in pain, tenderness, stiffness and increased relaxation and improved sleep are just some of the benefits that can be expected.

Massage manipulates the soft tissues of the body, producing heat and stimulating the vascular and nervous system. For therapy purposes, massage can be seen as a means of either inducing relaxation, or invigorating the system depending on the choice and combination of massage movements used. Whatever the effect desired, the basic components for massage remain constant, being based on a range of varied movements.
